Some of our Maui weddings couples are not aware that we can also arrange their Maui travel needs. Blue Skies Tours hosted a nice dinner at the Sheriton Hotel up on the West Side for some travel agents and as the owner of Maui Me, I was privileged to be able to attend.

Because I was the only travel agent not working for a travel agency at the meeting, I just assumed that my bookings were probably not that large for this tour company. When I mentioned this to the rep, he said, “Oh, no. We’ve had our eye on you; you do as well as some of our other agents who only do travel exclusively.”

He told me that Maui has become such a popular destination because it is safe, it is still located in the United States, and you won’t be assaulted by anyone on the beaches. They also do bookings for Mexico and they made statements that Uzi (machine guns) have shown up on the beaches in Mexico!

I mentioned that I had just lost a couple who had chosen an all-inclusive resort in Jamaica because it was cheaper. The rep’s comment to me was that these countries who have “all inclusive resorts” do so because their tourists usually shouldn’t dare leave the property (because of local crime). The prices might be cheaper, but there is no comparison with the value couples receive on Maui compared to anything in the Caribbean.

On Maui, obviously, you are not limited just to the resort. You can go anywhere and enjoy yourself without feeling worried about something strange happening. The worse thing we’ve had happen in years was the earthquake. And believe me, that was a rare problem that hasn’t really impacted the islands much.

Because I live on Maui, I can tell you the best properties to stay at. I often ask our couples how they feel about their accommodations so that I’ll know next time more about what to recommend. I can also get you good deals on your rates.

One couple told us that they had a $100 refund due to them with Travelocity and they assumed that I couldn’t beat that Internet site’s prices. As it turned out, my prices beat Travelocity rates by $300! Even with their discount, it was still a better deal to let me do their travel.
